Don’t Make A Business Out of Something You Love
Huh, what are you saying here. Isn’t your site all about doing an online business with something your passionate about? So why an article about not doing business out of something you love. What gives?
I know, from the outside looking in, this looks kind of hypocritical. But believe me it really is not. I was sitting there watching my son playing a video game. The new NBA 2k15, which lets you play in a real player scenario, with subbing in and out of the game, 10 day contracts to earn you way on the team, and an agents and endorsements. Basically it tries to recreate the experience of the NBA by making yourself a new player working your way through the season and beyond.
So as the virtual coach is yelling at my sons player for two many turnovers I asked him, why dont you look at making a living at playing video games. And his response startled me. I mean he has always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I have tried to teach him all I can. But I never thought he listened! He said, “Dad I love playing video games, but if I did this for a living I would get sick of it and give it up, I am not that passionate about it”.
And there you have it. The truth is that we as humans have a love for many things. Even our own love life is fleeting. But we only have a few passions. And the difference between our loves and true passions are the time and devotion, and willingness we have to devote the true part of our lives to it.
I love artichokes, my bulldogs, and sharks. But I cannot devote my entire being to making an online business success of any of those topics. They just aren’t passions that resonate within my soul. In other words I try and concentrate on the thing that gets my juices flowing…so much so that it doesn’t feel like I am working just living a charmed life.
So dont make an online business out of something you “just” love, make an online business out of something you are passionate about.
